Overview

As an ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accredited laboratory specializing in Kavalactone analysis, you can have full confidence in the potency results we provide. Our commitment to accuracy is further demonstrated by our "Acceptable" performance in the NIST third-party proficiency evaluation (PE), available here.

Our analysis employs high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), a sophisticated technique that separates analytes based on size, surface charge, and other properties. The incorporation of ultra-violet (UV) detection with HPLC allows the concentration of analytes to be determined following separation.

Total Alkaloids Analytes (Kavalactones Potency) include:

  • Dihydrokawain
  • Dihydromethysticin
  • Desmethoxyyangonin
  • Kawain
  • Methysticin
  • Yangonin

We also offer optional add-on analyses, including Flavokawain (a.k.a. Flavokavain) potency, Noble Kava, and Tudei Kava confirmation.

Additional testing services include:

  • Pathogen analysis via PCR, the most sensitive and specific
  • Metals analysis
  • Mycotoxins
  • Pesticides
  • Aspergillus

Results Interpretation

While there are currently no hard and fast limits for this material in the U.S., certain states are beginning to implement regulations that will establish such standards.

  • Suggested Limits

Here are the levels we advise using.

We have ranges for the three indicator organisms so you can choose a level based on how strict you would like to be:

    • STEC & Salmonella spp.: Negative
    • APC: < 100,000 - 500,000 CFU/g
    • Yeast/Mold: < 10,000 - 100,000 CFU/g
(except for fermented strains which can be higher)
    • Coliform Enumeration: < 2,000 - 10,000 CFU/g
    • S. aureus Enumeration: < 100 CFU/g
    • Metals:
      • Arsenic: < 1.0 mg/kg
      • Cadmium: < 0.41 mg/kg
      • Lead: < 1.0 mg/kg
