Analyzing Kratom Since 2018
We were among the first laboratories to analyze kratom, and our Mitragynine results are highly accurate. As an ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accredited laboratory for analyzing Kratom Alkaloids, including Mitragynine potency, you can trust the results we provide.
High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) is a technique that separates analytes based on size, surface charge, and other properties. By incorporating ultraviolet (UV) detection with HPLC, we can accurately determine the concentration of analytes after separation.
Over the years, we have refined our proprietary in-house method. Our extremely stable plant powder control yields very tight ranges of 1.22–1.26% Mitragynine and similar ranges for the other three minor alkaloids, with RSD values around 1.7%.

Suggested Limits
Here are the levels we advise using.
We have ranges for the three indicator organisms so you can choose a level based on how strict you would like to be:
- STEC & Salmonella spp.: Negative
- APC: < 100,000 - 500,000 CFU/g
- Yeast/Mold: < 10,000 - 100,000 CFU/g
(except for fermented strains which can be higher) - Coliform Enumeration: < 2,000 - 10,000 CFU/g
- S. aureus Enumeration: < 100 CFU/g
- Metals:
- Arsenic: < 1.0 mg/kg
- Cadmium: < 0.41 mg/kg
- Lead: < 1.0 mg/kg
- Mercury: < 0.20 mg/kg

Do you offer a volume discount?
Our list prices are already competitive; however, we do offer the following volume discount for 11+ samples submitted at the same time:
- Potency: $95 per sample
- Metals: $80 per sample
Why might potency results be lower with Murray-Brown Laboratories than other labs?
- We will report the results we find regardless of if they are low whereas some labs may not, due to a vested interest to generate higher results.
- We are ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accredited for analyzing Kratom Alkaloids. Some laboratories have made false claims of the same. It should be very easy to verify a laboratories’ ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation.
- Additionally, there are significant differences in the quality of third-party laboratories and their methodologies. For example, some laboratories use LC-MS/MS instrumentation, which is challenging to use for Kratom Alkaloid analysis due to the percent-level concentrations involved.
- Upon retest requests, we generally confirm our retests and have very tight QC requirements for our potency analysis (see Overview Tab). Other laboratories may struggle to reproduce results due to poor techniques or incorrect instrumentation. If results vary significantly and cannot be confirmed across runs, this may indicate poor quality control or the use of LC-MS/MS for quantification.
- Some laboratories may sum the Mitragynine with the Paynantheine peaks, even when full separation resolves the pair, resulting in 0.2–0.4% higher potency values.
What is the retest policy?
Retest available upon request.
If the retest confirms the original result, we will charge for the retest. If the retest result does not confirm, there will be no charge.
How should I prepare and ship my sample?
- Sample should represent the real-world product as received by the end customer and/or be homogeneous with the batch it represents.
- Packaging should maintain sample integrity by preventing exchange with the atmosphere.
- Ship next day or 2nd day, avoid Saturdays and weekends.
- If your product is normally refrigerated, pack with cold packs.
- Non-refrigerated products can be shipped without cold packs.
- Please do not use Dry Ice and do not freeze samples
