Terpenes

As one of the largest and most diverse classes of organic compounds terpenes are found in numerous plant species and are responsible for creating the unique scent fingerprint of cannabis. In addition to the aromatic traits that are critical to the cosmetics industry terpenes also provide therapeutic benefits comparable to their close partners THC and CBD. Terpenes bind to the endocannabinoid receptors in the brain and body, where they can provide a range of effects such as reduced stress, elevated mood, or reduced inflammation depending on which sites they bind to.  The endocannabinoid receptors are the same ones that are influenced by THC and CBD, and due to this relationship terpenes and cannabinoids can work together to magnify the therapeutic effects in what is called the “Entourage Effect”.
